French Icons Team Up For Sustainability: Balmain x evian

As we all know, the world is trying to be more sustainable and thankfully many fashion brands are starting to take initiatives and change their production process in an effort to become more eco-friendly.

Recently, Balmain and Evian partnered together to create a capsule collection based around sustainability.

One garment in this collection is very unique and is contributing to the sustainability of both brands so much already. The couture dress made in this collaboration is white to resemble the purity of the water and the hope of being eco-friendly and it is pleated to look like an ocean wave. It is made from 100% polyester and can very easily be recycled or up-cycled and could also be used to create more Evian water bottles in the future if desired. Additionally, one of the goals for this dress is to be sold and when it is, the proceeds will be donated to charity.

Evian is very focused on helping the earth and it shows with one of their goals for the future. By 2025 they hope to be a full-circle brand to help reduce the amount of plastic on the streets, in the oceans, and in nature overall. 100% of the materials for these water bottles will be from recycled materials. Balmain’s creative director, Oliver Rousteing, has stated that he has very similar ideas as Evian and hopes to make a similar impact.

Rousteing is aware that at the moment it will not work to be totally sustainable since there is still research that needs to be done and intense plans that would have to be created, but hopefully, they will get there someday. The Balmain creative director is excited to work with Evian because they will not only teach him, and the brand, a lot about how to be more eco-friendly, but they also represent French excellence. Evian and Balmain both have connections to Savoy, France which is a region in southeastern France that is filled with mountains. This is where Evian sources their water and where Pierre Balmain was born in a small village called Saint Jean de Maurienne.

The pieces in this capsule collection are beautiful light pastels that stimulate feelings of ease and happiness while representing the light and airy qualities of the two brands. Rousteing also wanted to represent the amazing city that is Paris, “What I wanted to bring to them is the rich richness of our beautiful Paris, which is the City of Light”.
